This tugged at my heart. We had our 4th baby 6 months ago and wondering if this is the last of this era. We’ve always talked about 4-5 kids but can definitely see closing this chapter after 4 kids.
Perfect timing, as I passed on our navy blue glider this week. 🥹 It rocked my best friend’s two baby boys, and then mine. Unintentionally, it’s off to another two boy mama. 💙💙
I completed related to this! We recently sold our rocking chair that I bought off Facebook Marketplace 12 years ago. So many memories with both of my kids in that chair. I had a moment of sadness seeing the chair drive away with its new owner but also have hope that it can bring memories to another family as it did mine. ♥️
Beautiful. I have read this essay during different seasons of motherhood and each time it brings so much emotion; especially right now as my third child just turned two.
Had to find my Substack login and stumbled on this upon re-entry. This is my most favorite essay on motherhood, Ashlee. Your gift is such a gift.
Our glider was a purchase I saved for last because I also wanted to make something else aesthetically work. (Funny how quickly bleeding nipples can overhaul a design plan). Now with my third it's beige is a more grey, beautifully stained with what feel like lifetimes of motherhood. I'm sure I'll think of this essay sometimes during its final days here.
I have a grey rocking chair still existing, no longer for the night feeds but for reading board books and nursery rhymes and I bet I'll keep it for a few more years yet.
What a wonderful essay. You may not have shed a tear giving the chair away, but I did reading it! My daughter is about a month apart in age from Presley, and we still have our bedtime snuggles in our gray rocker. I'm sure one day I will also be ready to part with the chair, but those snuggles are some of the best parts of my days. <3
My favorite essay of all time from C+C ❤️
Aw, that is so kind! Thanks for reading.

What a gift to pass along.
Loved this ❤️ we just moved our first born into a big bed and dragged the rocking chair into the nursery for baby brother to use in just a few months.

Beautiful. Whether or not an actual chair, I think there is a symbolic seat in all of our mother hearts for these sentiments ❣️
i’ve read this before, but wow. you really got me today. 😭❤️
Thanks for rereading, Kelsee!
